Refreshing the Community

Category: Uncategorized

Author: Aaron Stockwell, Plant Operations Director

As spring arrives, our team turns its attention to one of the most visible parts of our community: landscaping. Beautiful grounds do not happen by chance. They come from thoughtful planning, seasonal preparation, and steady attention to detail.

After winter, I take a proactive approach to refreshing our outdoor spaces. My goal is to keep them visually appealing, safe, and enjoyable for residents. As the Plant Operations Director at The Barrymore Senior Living, I focus on the steps that help our community look its best each spring.

Preparing the Property

For the spring refresh, my team focuses on several key priorities across the property. We repair broken sprinkler heads and irrigation lines, update planters with seasonal flowers and foliage, and keep mulch beds clean, fresh, and appealing.

One recent seasonal project involved contractors updating the community planters with new seasonal arrangements. Our in-house team also completed mulch cleanup after several weeks of heavy rain. This helped maintain the appearance and condition of the landscaping.

To stay ahead of maintenance needs, my team regularly walks the property. We assess exterior conditions, activate and inspect irrigation systems for leaks, and look for plants or trees showing signs of disease or winter damage.

One common issue during spring startup is irrigation damage. Winter conditions can lead to leaks and broken sprinkler heads. We begin inspections as soon as weather allows. Then, we coordinate with contractors quickly to complete repairs and avoid delays.

Looking Ahead

As The Barrymore becomes more fully established, I anticipate more flexibility in our planning. Once warranty-related projects and community changes wrap up, the team can focus more on preventative maintenance and long-term exterior improvements.

It is easy to see the finished product, but real success comes from teamwork. Coordination, accountability, and pride help bring each project together. These efforts ensure The Barrymore Senior Living continues to meet the standards residents expect while setting the tone for the months ahead.
